Devlog 4
The main thing I focused on this week was getting a MVP (minimum viable product), and while I haven't achieved that - I'm using this devlog to show what I need to do by tomorrow. And for what I've done since the last devlog, I've managed to make the first model - almost. I didn't do the arms properly and I need to redo them, then hopefully I can do texture painting relatively quickly. Now that I have a better idea of how to do 3D modelling, I can model the next 3 characters much faster.
(I also probably need to practice my proportions, but it's low poly and I'm purposely trying to get away with it in some places.)
Basics
Currently everything is connected and works - I need to quickly draw out a couple more rooms, and add some sort of signifier that the player can use a door. It might be useful to investigate a basic shader to get outlines of objects. Next is a basic implementation of an inventory. I plan to make a basic revolving inventory, and the hard part will be figuring out the graphical part of it. With those two things implemented, I can at least have some testing done.
Next steps
It's essential that I get the gameplay done by Tuesday. Or at least the outline, due to the nature of the game. For that, the next things need to be added. Time has to be implemented, as well as another window and a boolean to let the background be a colour picked from a gradient. This is important, as I want a minimal UI - and since this game is time based, I'm using visual cues to tell time. Next, I need to implement routines, most of which are relatively simple, with only occasional movement. Alongside this, I can make NPCs interact with the node map, and alongside that, I can also create deeper AI. From Wednesday on, I have to deepen these mechanics, add more stuff, finish animations, and continue that cycle for the next couple weeks. At least now, it's fairly obvious where to go next.
Preemptive apologies for how short this is - considering I submitted my other devlog late, and a few days ago, I didn't really have much to add. However - next weeks devlog is going to be much longer.
